Baltimore City is composed of three major watersheds: Herring Run, Gwynns Falls, and Jones Falls. Save Our Streams has worked with leadership in all three watersheds to form community watershed associations.
The Herring Run Watershed Association
was organized as a result of an Adopt-A-Stream watershed survey
event. They host an annual Spring Migration Fair and have now
have "Stream Teams" that monitor monthly, the health
of the waterway. For more information take a look at the two
Herring Run Watershed Website.
THE HERRING RUN WATERSHED ASSOCIATION
The Gwynn's Falls Watershed Association
held it's first annual meeting on October 27, 1998. They held
successful stream surveys last fall & spring. The GFWA is
also planning to set up Stream Teams (modeled after Herring
Run's) and support activities throughout the watershed. For
more information contact
the Gwynns Falls Watershed Association.
THE GWYNN'S FALLS WATERSHED ASSOCIATION
The Jones Falls Watershed Association
held it's first event: The Jones Falls Festival, on September
19th & 20th. The high point of the festival was the canoeing
down the falls to really observe its beauty. The Jones Falls
Expressway was closed to traffic so that walkers, runners, and
bikers could have an opportunity to view the falls. The association
is planning to build on the success of this event. For more
information, contact
the Jones Falls Watershed.
